A Message From Earth Voices Radio and Echoes of Breath Studio
A lot of people are throwing AI and VI into the same bucket, and that’s simply wrong.
AI — Artificial Intelligence — can generate ideas, music, voices, arrangements, images and other material from prompts or learned patterns.
VI — Virtual Instruments — are instruments inside the computer.
A virtual piano is still a piano.
A virtual orchestra is still an orchestra.
A virtual drum kit is still a drum kit.
You still have to write the music, choose the instruments, play or program the parts, arrange it, edit it, mix it and decide what the finished piece is supposed to sound like.
Using virtual instruments does not automatically make music “AI music.”
That would be like saying an electric guitarist didn’t really play because the sound went through an amplifier.
AI and VI are completely different tools.
Different process. Different skill set. Different game.
Steinberg introduced VST — Virtual Studio Technology — back in 1996. Virtual instruments and software-based studios have been part of professional music production for decades.
And this isn’t some little underground trick.
Companies such as Native Instruments, Vienna Symphonic Library, EastWest, Spitfire Audio, Spectrasonics, Arturia, Toontrack, UVI, IK Multimedia and Steinberg build professional virtual instruments used throughout modern recording and production.
Studios use them.
Composers use them.
Mixers use them.
I use them.
When I work on a recording, I may spend days on it.
Files can go back and forth to musicians and singers in Europe. Backup vocals may be recorded. Additional instruments may be added. Vocal tracks get edited. Instruments are layered. Timing gets adjusted. Pitch may be corrected with software such as Melodyne. EQ, compression, reverbs, effects and dozens of other plug-ins may be used before the finished master ever leaves the studio.
I have thousands of plug-ins, samples, instruments and sounds available in the studio.
A plug-in might be a compressor.
It might be a piano.
It might be a violin.
It might be a full orchestra.
It might change a vocal.
It might create a room or hall around a recording.
That is music production.
It is not the same thing as typing a prompt and having a finished song generated for you seconds later.
An album can take days, weeks or longer. The same goes for individual songs, voice-overs, orchestration, vocal work and mixing.
Another thing that adds to the confusion is automated detection.
YouTube, streaming services and rights-management systems use automated technology to analyze recordings. YouTube’s Content ID system, for example, creates digital fingerprints of audio and compares uploads against reference recordings.
Automated systems are useful, but they are not human ears sitting in a recording studio watching how a piece of music was actually made.
So when somebody sees Vienna, Kontakt, Spitfire, EastWest, Omnisphere, Superior Drummer, HALion or another software instrument in a production, that does NOT automatically mean AI created the music.
It means somebody used modern recording tools.
People need to stop treating every computer-assisted recording technique as AI.
We have been making music with computers, MIDI, samplers, synthesizers, plug-ins and virtual instruments for decades.
AI is one technology.
VI is another.
Know the difference.
Earth Voices Radio — Music & Airplay Policy
Earth Voices Radio is an independent, artist-focused music platform built around one simple principle: music is chosen because we believe it deserves to be heard.
EVR does not charge artists for airplay, chart placement, reviews, consideration, or inclusion in our programming.
No Pay-for-Play. No Purchased Placement. No Algorithms Choosing the Music.
Music is selected by human ears. Artists are considered on the strength, originality, and character of their work—not on their ability or willingness to pay for exposure.
Submitting music does not guarantee airplay. EVR retains full editorial control over its programming and chooses music that fits the character and purpose of the station.
Artists retain ownership of their music. Airplay or inclusion on Earth Voices Radio does not imply ownership, representation, management, or an exclusive relationship with EVR.
Earth Voices Radio supports independent artists from around the world.
Real Music. Human Judgment. Independent Voices.
